Blackbox Recording Studios started in early 2000 as a mobile recording studio. Taking music back to the bedroom was an exciting idea. This is where it is usually created after all. During this time albums were recorded for such notable acts as Spiderbait, Gota Cola, George, The Cruel Sea and Tex Perkins, Regurgitator, Resin Dogs.

Over time we collected so much gear that we have now made a more permanent base in Newstead, Brisbane. The studio is still in a house to give it that relaxed vibe.

Our approach is to use the best of both worlds, we love analog and digital. The studio is based around a Protools Mix plus system and a Studer 2” 16 track tape machine. The Studer is from 1973 and we have done a lot of work to keep it maintained and sounding great. We have heaps of A-class pre amps and classic Eq and compression. We have more than enough microphones and great sounding rooms. Take a look at our gear list for more detail.

Jeff and Magoo have quite extensive discographies and have played in, and recorded bands nationally, for more than 10 years now. We are fans of music and like to get involved in what we are doing. Please contact us and we can discuss your next recording project.
